Job Description:
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Science at Louisiana State University invites applicants for an open faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. This is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor. Salary is commensurate with the individuals experience and qualifications.
50% Anesthesia support for the small, large and zoo-exotic animal services within the teaching hospital, and participation in after-hours emergency service. Clinical responsibilities will be shared with other members of the anesthesia service (total of 4 anesthesiologists, 7 technicians, up to 2 residents and/or interns).
25% Contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in veterinary anesthesiology and teaching of clinical veterinary anesthesia and analgesia to veterinary students. Contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in veterinary anesthesiology to the anesthesia house officers and technicians. Cooperate with other faculty members in training interns/residents. Contribute towards Louisiana's community by collaborating with LVMA and BRAVMA annually continuing education. Active participant in the college of specialty, ACVAA.
20% Independent and collaborative research endeavors.
5% Serve on committees within VCS and the SVM.
Minimum Qualifications:
DVM or equivalent degree; Successful completion of an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) approved residency program.
Specific Experience: Successful completion of an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA ) approved residency program
Minimum Certifications/Licenses:
Diplomate of American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA )
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts.
Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, sitting, bending, crawling, squatting, and/or twisting.
* Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67*
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
