Reporting to the Superintendent, the
Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and guiding all instructional programs and special education services across the District. This individual collaborates with administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and community stakeholders to foster an inclusive, high-quality learning environment. The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning directs and oversees a wide variety of services provided to support teaching and learning at the OAISD and in the local school districts served by OAISD.Essential Job FunctionsLead and oversee all Teaching and Learning activities of the OAISD across General Education, Special Education, and Career and Technical Education for PreK-12 through adult studentsLead and operate Special Education programs and services for learners birth to 26 years of age including Early On, Parents As Teachers, Sheldon Pines School, Ottawa Area Center and Young Adult ServicesLead and operate Career and Technical Education Programs for high school age students at the Careerline Tech Center and adult students at Thompson M-TECCoordinate the provision of services to local school districts including Help Me Grow Ottawa, Great Start Collaborative, Great Start Readiness Program, Special Education Compliance and Technical Assistance, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, School Improvement, Literacy, Math, Behavior, Multilingual Learners, Instructional Technology, Future Prep'd, and Work Based LearningEnsure that teaching practices, curriculum, and instructional programs are aligned with state and federal guidelinesProvide instructional leadership, compliance and consultative services to local school districts, charter schools, and parochial schools within the OAISD service area in support of their efforts to educate studentsResponsibilities and Duties include:Instructional LeadershipSpecial Education OversightCareer and Technical Education OversightEarly Childhood Education OversightCollaboration and Stakeholder EngagementData-Driven Decision MakingBudget and Resource ManagementProfessional DevelopmentQualifications and SkillsEducation: Master's or Doctoral degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Special Education, or a related field.Certification: Valid Michigan School Administrator Certificate. Special Education Administrator Certification with full state approval in at least one area of Special Education strongly preferred.Experience :A minimum of 5 years of administrative leadership experience, preferably in special education and/or curriculum/instruction roles.Full approval as an administrator in the State of Michigan required.Proven experience in supervising educational programs and services, including special education.Strong understanding of state and federal special education regulations, funding, curriculum development, and instructional practices.Strong understanding of state and federal vocational/technical education regulations, funding, curriculum development, and instructional practices.CompensationSalary: $174,000 - $184,000.To ApplyClick the APPLY button to view our open position, read the full job description, and follow the application process.
