Lab Network Engineer InternNon-Exempt:Job Summary:The Lab Network Engineer Intern will learn routing and switching protocols using Extreme Networks multi-layer Ethernet switches. The LNE will learn how to design, implement, and troubleshoot networks working in the Services Lab Operations team. Candidates should have Windows and Linux experience, basic networking knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion to learn technology.The Lab Network Engineer will work in the Services Lab Operations team in Morrisville, North Carolina. They will interface directly with the lab manager on a regular basis to:Learn Extreme Networks products, routing & switching protocols, and lab operationsSetup networking equipment for Technical Support Engineers (TSEs) to use for customer supportPartner with TSEs to help replicate customers’ network issues (software, hardware, configuration)Assist with lab operations (racking, cabling, troubleshooting, managing equipment, etc.)Prepare to become a Technical Support Engineer, Network Engineer, or a related positionSuccess for this position is based on the following:Demonstrating technical aptitude, critical thinking, and communication skills to solve problemsPassing certifications & internal training on products & network protocolsAdhering to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for lab setups and replicationsAccurately documenting work activities in a clear and concise mannerImproving lab operations and processes on an ongoing basisTraining various lab users on systems and processesCandidate Requirements:Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPassion and aptitude for learning technology and solving problemsStrong written and verbal communication skillsBasic networking knowledge including Ethernet, TCP/IP, OSI model, routing and switchingExperience in a service-oriented positionCan work independently with minimal guidance as well as collaboratively with other team membersExcellent organization and time management skillsPreferred SkillsExperience working with routers and switches in a lab environment or technical support positionKnowledge of servers and virtualization (VMware, Linux, Microsoft)Background ExperiencesPursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a computer or networking related fieldCustomer service experience, preferably in technical supportSetting up and managing home networks (wired and wireless)Pursuing industry standard certifications
