In this role, you will work with the CDC customers to implement HL7 guides for various CDC programs, publish vocabulary content through proprietary application, and support internal and external users through their CDC mailboxes using a ticketing system. Work Visa sponsorship will not be provided for this role. HOW A PUBLIC HEALTH VOCABULARY SPECIALIST WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Identify existing medical vocabulary and terminology options (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED, RXNORM) which could be used to support data elements in the Message Mapping Guides Provide expertise in SNOMED, LOINC, ICD, UCUM, HL7 value sets and other EHR-related standards Interact with Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs), such as LOINC and SNOMED to standardize data elements and values in the Message Mapping Guide that does not currently exist in their code systems but can be beneficial to other users outside of public health Identify or develop vocabulary options for harmonizing similar data elements across national notifiable conditions/diseases and provide advice to CDC program staff in terms of how best to harmonize and standardize data elements across national notifiable conditions Create Best Practices for vocabulary work applied to Message Mapping Guide development Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that describe in detail how vocabulary work is performed for Message Mapping Guide development Interact with CDC programs and partners to maintain standardized vocabulary content needed for electronic messages and systems Map new vocabulary in Message Mapping Guides to legacy data elements Develop and update standardized vocabulary content needed for electronic messages and systems Deploy vocabulary content using proprietary application (UAF) for PHIN VADS system Manage internal/external customer requests via mailboxes to keep track of work and follow SOPs WHAT YOULL NEED TO SUCCEED: Education: BA/BS or equivalent Required Experience: Minimum of five years of related experience Required Technical Skills: Minimum of five years of clinical/medical work experience Experience with business requirement capture / requirements analysis Working knowledge and experience applying clinical reference terminologies and coding schemes (i.e., SNOMED, RxNorm, LOINC, ICD9, CPT). Security Clearance: Must have an active CDC Public Trust Required Skills and Abilities: Ability to initiate joint design and development efforts and collaborate with stakeholders to review business, technical and data requirements, and ensure data accuracy and quality Must be able to effectively communicate with stakeholders and team Preferred Skills: Experience with HL7 messaging structure Experience with Service Now ticketing system or equivalent Location: Remote GDIT IS YOUR PLACE: ? 401K with company match ? This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
