Job Description
Johnson County Department of Technology and Innovation (DTI) is seeking a dynamic individual with a diverse skillset as it relates to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), process automation (i.e., Extract Transform Load (ETL)), data visualization, and analysis. The GIS Analyst position is assigned to the AIMS (Automated Information Mapping System) unit within Enterprise Services of DTI, for support of GIS, mapping, data visualization, and analysis functions at the County. This position is eligible for a hybrid work assignment. First review of applications will begin on December 4, 2024. The ideal candidate would possess and be able to perform the following skills/task:Work with Johnson County departments on data and spatial analysis projects to provide solutions to complex issues using various GIS technology solutions.
Possess considerable knowledge of GIS technologies and applications as they relate to the ESRI GIS Software Suite including ArcGIS Pro to perform GIS workflows, data management, conversion, creation, editing, analysis and geoprocessing, cartography, visualization, and sharing.Extensive experience using ArcGIS Online and Portal specifically using, Dashboard, Story Maps, Field Collector, Survey 123 to assist County department and AIMS data partners.The ability to manipulate and query data as well as provide reports and visualizations of data utilizing T-SQL, SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Reporting Services, Tableau and Power BI.Knowledge of automation tools and programming software such as Python, model builder, Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), Power Automate, and other ETL tools.As Mapper of the Day (MOD), work with the general public and AIMS Data Partners by answering questions related to AIMS data and services, and by responding to specific requests for data and services (e.g., map creation).Additional desirable skills would include experience working with Census & Population Data, ACS Variables/Tables and Forecasting; familiarity with Cadastral Mapping, Coordinate Geometry mapping (COGO) and PLSS System; Experience with Asset Management System (Central Square or comparable); and familiarity with Tableau as a data visualization tool.Candidate must be able to lead and coordinate projects and have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. In addition, candidate should have practical experience providing solutions relative to data and GIS and an understanding of the functions of County government.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in the following field(s) of study: geography, data analysis, statistics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or relevant field of study and five (5) years of experience using GIS or other data analysis software.Experience can substitute for education. Education can substitute for experience.This position is currently eligible to work in a hybrid work environment with both onsite and remote work. Residency within the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City, MO-KS Combined Statistical Area, which generally includes the Kansas counties of Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Miami, and Linn, and the Missouri counties of Jackson, Clay, Platte, Cass, and Ray, is required.__________________________________________Johnson County Government requires successful completion of reference/background screening for all positions.Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
