Description
Their primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the operations during a specific shift, ensuring that production or services are delivered efficiently, safely, and according to established standards. The Shift Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that a production or service operation runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely during their assigned shift. Their role is vital in maintaining productivity and quality standards within the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assume responsibility for the smooth operation of a specific shift.Coordinate and manage shift personnel, including supervisors, operators, and technicians.Schedule and allocate tasks to ensure the completion of production or service goals.Enforce and promote safety and food safety protocols and procedures to maintain a secure work environment.Conduct safety and food safety inspections and audits to identify and rectify potential hazards.Ensure that all employees adhere to safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.Monitor and evaluate the production processes to maintain efficiency and quality.Address any operational issues or disruptions that may arise during the shift.Maintain detailed shift records, including production statistics, incidents, and maintenance activities.Manage resources such as equipment, materials, and manpower to meet production targets.Communicate resource requirements to the appropriate departments, such as maintenance or procurement.Optimize resource utilization to minimize waste and maximize productivity.Serve as a point of contact between management and shift personnel.Facilitate communication within the shift, ensuring that information flows effectively.Report shift performance to higher management and provide updates on any issues or improvements.Identify and resolve operational problems in a timely and effective manner.Implement corrective actions and process improvements to prevent future issues.Make quick decisions during emergencies or unexpected events according to company standards.Train and mentor shift employees, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.Assist in the development and implementation of training programs.Foster a culture of continuous improvement and skill development.Initiate their own training and seek out training where there are gaps in their knowledge.Provide coaching, disciplinary actions, perform interviewing and hiring for all personnel on their corresponding shift.Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in management or engineering is preferred.Several years of experience in a related role, with a strong understanding of food processing and food safety.Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively manage a team and coordinate activities.Proficiency in safety regulations and best practices.Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address operational challenges.Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Adaptability to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
