Job Title: EGS PI Specialist - Days Requisition Number: 37050 Employment Type: Full Time Division: TRAUMA & FORENSIC SERVICES Compensation Type: Salaried Job Category: Nursing / LVN Hours Worked: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Location: John Peter Smith Hospital Shift Worked: Day Job Description: Job Summary: The EGS PI Specialist must possess a background in both general surgical care and surgical performance improvement and patient safety. This position assists the surgical quality program to promote delivery of optimal and efficient services from pre-hospital to rehabilitation. The EGS PI Specialist requires knowledge and skill in nursing practice, evidence based practices, acute care surgical centers, processes, principles of teaching, and quality improvement. Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities: Along with the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Manager, trains and supervises EGS nurse clinicians in performance improvement duties. Assists the EGS quality program with coordination, investigation, analysis and response to quality/patient safety issues, events, significant care issues and trends. Assists with assessing root cause analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and process improvement, working with multidisciplinary teams. Supports the EGS Performance Improvements and Patient Safety Program (PIPS) through assisting with identification of complications, comorbidities and compliance with EGS guidelines. Participates in surgical case reviews, escalation of events through quality committees, and linking performance improvement data to action plans, educational programs, and/or outreach. Works with an interprofessional team to facilitate implementation of evidence based practice to optimize patient outcomes. Monitors and reports completed actions for sustainment of success or need for continued action. Collaborates with EGS leadership team to validate accuracy of data elements used for PI dashboards and benchmarking. Participates in the delivery of education to members of the interprofessional team involved in the care of emergent surgical patients. Demonstrates customer service behavior to all health care providers, pre-hospital providers, outside hospitals, clients, families, and peers/coworkers. Maintains safe and clean working environment ensuring compliance with procedure rules and regulations. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of professional nursing. Must have practiced as a RN for 5 plus years in an Emergency Department or Critical Care Area, including experience providing care to general surgical patients. Current RN licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state. Completion of unit specific competency based orientation program within 90 days. Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Provider. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC). Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) Provider, obtained within 1 year of hire date. Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within 1 year of employment. Professional certification (CEN, CCRN, TCRN or similar) within 1 year of employment. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree from an accredited school of professional nursing. 1 plus years of experience in both Emergency Department and Critical Care. Practiced for 1 plus years in a quality program with direct involvement with performance improvement and patient safety.
