Vice President, Bermuda Claims Group (2400004W)Description:The successful candidate will be responsible for handling commercial casualty claims and healthcare professional liability claims on U.S and internationally-based risk involving large sophisticated insureds. The appropriate candidate will be a self-starter who can immediately handle a diverse range of claims and responsibilities and work with the existing claims staff. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Bermuda Claims Group responsible for general liability and healthcare claims.Responsibilities Include:Review and assess severity of claim notifications.Draft and issue claim correspondence.Instruct and manage claim and coverage counsel.Investigate and evaluate assigned claims as to coverage, liability and quantum.Make appropriate reserve and settlement recommendations and establish case reserves within delegated authority levels.Negotiate and resolve assigned claims, including by participating in mediations and settlement conferences.Liaise with claims handling entities for captive healthcare reinsureds and underlying carriers and perform required audit and audit oversight functions.Manage staff of assistants with respect to claim intake, file creation, and initial notice acknowledgement.Comply with internal reporting, auditing, and reserving procedures.Liaise with underwriting.Perform other ad-hoc projects related to claims and claim handling.Assist in other departmental projects and reports as required.Qualifications:Education, Skills and Experience:The successful applicant will have the minimum skills, qualifications, and experience:University degree required, Juris Doctorate or equivalent strongly preferred, preferably with experience with New York insurance law and international arbitration.Minimum of 10 years experience substantively handling commercial casualty claims noticed on excess casualty insurance policies issued to Fortune 1000 companies and healthcare policies issued to a wide range of healthcare entities and, where applicable, their captives.Familiarity with U.S. and Bermuda casualty insurance forms, and professional liability medical malpractice/risk policy forms and reinsurance contracts.Excellent computer skills including thorough knowledge of Genius, Microsoft Windows, Excel and PowerPoint.Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as organizational skills.About Fairfax:Fairfax is a holding company which, through its subsidiaries, is engaged in property and casualty insurance and reinsurance and investment management.About Allied World:Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, Ltd, through its subsidiaries, is a global provider of insurance and reinsurance solutions.
