Job Description
Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and motivated Associate Scientist to join our oncology research group. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the discovery, research, and development of novel therapeutic agents to address unmet medical needs of cancer patients. This candidate will have ample opportunity to drive their career growth---at technical, professional, and scientific levels---in a fast-paced and resource-rich environment.Key ResponsibilitiesIndependently plan, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments that drive non-routine biology research and progress the development of novel medicines, including understanding of the relevant scientific literature.Proactively evaluate new technologies and develop assays to accelerate early-stage discovery activities or enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.Collaboratively support multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously while developing productive partnerships with colleagues in the oncology, protein engineering, chemistry, translational medicine, biomarker and clinical groups.Effectively communicate research findings and recommendations, in both large and small group forums, to senior staff.Contribute to research reports, manuscripts, INDs, and patent filings.Knowledge, Experience and SkillsBachelor's or Master's degree with 6-10+ years of experience in relevant fields such as cell biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry.Experience in research drug discovery and target identification/validation, preferably in oncology.Extensive experience in molecular and cell biology methods, preferably including:Primary cell culture and flow cytometry.Gene expression (e.g. RT-qPCR, Nanostring, etc.)Cell signaling (e.g. immunoblotting, ELISA, immunofluorescence, reporter assays)Proliferation / survival effects under pharmacological challengesGenetic perturbations (e.g. RNAi, CRISPR, overexpression)A strong record of achievements, contributions to drug discovery programs and publications is desired.Attention to detail with excellent organizational and record keeping skills is a requirement.The salary range for this position is: $107,270.00 - $138,820.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
