Monday - Friday; 8:00-4:00This is a technical position responsible for the design, administration, maintenance, and overall operational status of computer networks. Work involves the installation, configuration, monitoring, as well as ongoing support of WAN/LAN hardware and the supervision of the same. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the WSWHE BOCES Learning Technologies Coordinator and performs related work as assigned.Responsibilities:
Installs, configures and maintains LAN/WAN hardware; routers, servers, single and multi-layer switches, etc.Works with other systems engineers, programmers, analysts, technicians, administrators, and representatives of the user community in the design, testing and evaluation of systems.Configures and deploys software on network.Updates and maintains servers, both physical and virtual.Analyzes and takes corrective action to resolve network problems involving computers and data communications hardware and software using appropriate analyzing tools.Designs and implements client/server architecture and virtual servers of BOCES and its client districts.Monitors server performance and performs regular maintenance, updates, and other adjustments as needed.Oversees and manages server access and security.Schedules and coordinates tape backups of data and confirms integrity of tape backups and ensures that they are archived.Researches, evaluates, and develops solutions to current and future network technology needs.Evaluates new technologies, hardware and software as required to fulfill the needs of BOCES and its clients.Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new trends and technology for computer network hardware and software.Attends professional training seminars and conferences as directed.Utilizes printed or electronic materials as pertinent and available.Participates in special Learning Technology projects.Works with other staff members in deploying and/or maintain computer networking technologies.Attends monthly and/or semi-annual meetings with Learning Tech or SSS focus groups as directed.Support services include:
Design, installation, and maintenance of Local Area Networks, District Area Networks, and Wide Area Networks.Design, implementation and support of the client/server architecture, Microsoft AD, Novell NDS, etc.Implementation of network security solutions such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, anti-virus, etc.Installation and support.Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered 2 year college with an Associates Degree in Computer Science or related field and four years of experience in networking technologies; OR Industry certified network training program with specialization in networking strategies, network architecture, equipment protocols and capacity planning and four years of experience in networking technologies; OR Six years paid full-time experience in networking technologies.Engineer level Certification in VMWare, Microsoft, and/or Cisco products is strongly preferred.Diverse candidates are encouraged to apply.*Promotional from Network Analyst title – 2 years of experience as Network Analyst.Note: Vacancies are filled by a certified list provided by Washington County Civil Service.
