LiftSystem Performance Engineer - DefenseIndianapolis, INAs a Performance Engineer with Rolls-Royce Corporation, you will play a key role within the cross-functional product team designing innovative propulsion systems. This role will also require supporting customer engagements as it pertains to cycle and system level performance optimization by presenting propulsion systems performance function to customer, both internal and external to Rolls-Royce.Innovate and Power the WorldIn this role, you will be working with the Rolls-Royce LiftSystem which provides an extremely robust, reliable and easily maintained STOVL solution that minimizes through life operational costs. The Rolls-Royce LiftSystem comprises the Rolls-Royce LiftFan, Driveshaft, 3 Bearing Swivel Module (3BSM) and Roll Posts. Key AccountabilitiesPerforming propulsion cycle analysis and performance predictions by creating computer simulation to satisfy an overall set of system requirements with Steady State and Transient Performance understanding.Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) Experience and understanding of Thermodynamics, Test Analysis, Transient Engine Operability and Whole Engine Sensitivities.Understanding system level issues related to propulsion system design, performance, operability and operation.Creating innovative solutions to system level issues related to aircraft and/or propulsion system performance.Designing thermodynamic system cycles for optimization to an application using robust engineering techniques.Specifying and Supporting propulsion systems performance testing, writing technical reports and creating technical presentations of engineering analysis and results.Basic Requirements:Bachelor`s degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics with 2+ experience in thermodynamics, gas dynamics, fluid mechanics and/or engine design OR;A Master`s degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics OR;A PhD in Engineering, Physics or MathematicsProficiency in computer programming language such as FORTRAN, Visual Basic, and/or C++/MatlabIn order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Permanent Resident or CitizenPreferred Requirements:Experience in the performance-related support of the design and/or development of gas turbinesSimulation/modelling of gas turbine cycles, hybrid electric systems, cycle analysis, engine operability, sizing and/or preliminary design analysisEngine cycle design to meet aircraft manufacturer or government objectives including current and future technologiesExperience in thermodynamic cycle modelling in Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) or similarPioneer the next generation of innovation.
