The Head of System Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the system engineering processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., INCOSE), and managing the lifecycle of our advanced automatic fare collection systems across our global operations. This role requires exceptional leadership and strategic management skills to drive innovation and excellence in system engineering.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Global Management:
Lead and manage the global system engineering team, fostering an empowered, collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment across multiple regions.Mentor and develop engineering staff, promoting professional growth, technical excellence, and cultural sensitivity.Define department goals, KPIs, and ensure alignment with global company objectives.Leads with curiosity and is an effective “storyteller” with the ability to inspire change and a growth mentality across the business.Able to work effectively as both a leader and individual within a team environment at all levels within the organization.Must be well organized, able to prioritize workload, handle multiple simultaneous tasks, and complete work under deadline pressure’s ability to shift course where needed and recalibrate quickly. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Change Management:
Able to demonstrate the capability to identify opportunities for change then lead/empower their team to execute the new path forward.Ability to address barriers to change and influence those who are resistant to change.
Requirements Management:
Collaborate with global stakeholders to capture and document system requirements, ensuring they are clear, complete, and testable.Maintain robust requirements traceability throughout the system development lifecycle across different regions.Ensure compliance with industry best practices for requirements management.
Subject Matter Expertise:
Proficient understanding of system engineering standards and best practices, requirement management, verification and validation, configuration management and risk management.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex problems into digestible content. Ability to see cause-and-effect relationships, patterns and trends and adjust course based on fact patterns.
Project Planning and Execution:
Develop and manage project staff allocations for global system engineering initiatives.Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and successful system integration across multiple regions.Apply systems engineering processes to project planning and execution.Effective delegation skills to allow for strategic planning.
Verification and Validation:
Oversee the development and execution of comprehensive test plans and validation procedures globally.Ensure all systems meet functional, performance, and regulatory requirements through rigorous testing and quality assurance processes.Implement industry best practice standards for verification and validation activities.
Configuration Management:
Establish and manage baselines for requirements, design, interfaces, configuration, and implementation.Implement robust change control processes to manage system modifications and updates.Ensure compliance with industry best practices for configuration management standards.
Risk Management:
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the system development lifecycle.Develop and implement risk management plans in accordance with industry guidelines.Monitor and report on risk status to stakeholders and executive management.
Documentation and Reporting:
Ensure all engineering activities are thoroughly documented, including requirements, test plans, and validation reports.Provide regular status updates, risk assessments, and progress reports to executive management and global stakeholders.Maintain documentation in compliance with industry standards.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments, including PMO, Quality, Operations, and Customer Support, to ensure cohesive and effective system development and deployment globally.Engage with customers and end-users across different regions to gather feedback and ensure the system meets their needs and expectations.Hands-on experience in working with internal and external customers in the areas of System Engineering, SW & HW product/system development, verification and validation.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
Continuously seek opportunities to improve engineering processes, methodologies, and tools on a global scale.Encourage a culture of innovation within the engineering team, promoting the exploration of new ideas and technologies.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education:
Four-year college degree, or equivalent, plus a minimum of ten years’ experience in the System Engineering field and experience managing staff.
