Winter Camp Counselor

Location:San Francisco3200 California StreetSan Francisco, CA 94118, USAWinter Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-5. Winter Camp is in session December 23 - January 3. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. There is no camp on 12/25/24 or 1/1/25.Position Overview:Counselors will be working directly with youth aged 5-10. Camps take place in a variety of locations both indoors (classrooms, basketball gym, art studio) and outdoors (playgrounds). Locations are dependent on which camp type the counselors are assigned. Assignments can be made with consideration of counselor preferences. As a camp counselor, you’ll be helping children create lifelong memories. At the same time, you’ll build your leadership skills, boost your resume, and have a blast!Responsibilities:Be the primary role model for a group of campers, grades K through 8.Create a safe, supportive environment for campers.Plan, organize, and supervise fun and age-appropriate activities.Help lead lesson plans and support indoor and outdoor programming.Set clear, consistent limits and resolve behavioral challenges with help from supervisors.Take on additional responsibilities as required.Requirements:Must be at least 16 with a valid work permit.Team player.Experience working with children ages 5 through 15, preferably in a camp setting.Warm, open, and able to respond sensitively to diverse groups of children.Interested in creating, planning, and facilitating group activities.Appropriately silly and imaginative at play.Adept at juggling attention to one camper while supervising large groups; enthusiastic, flexible, and able to improvise (a must).Working Conditions:Working conditions are typical of a classroom setting with frequent trips to local parks and fields. Hours are typically from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm.Physical Requirements:This position requires standing for much of the day with frequent walks to local parks. Counselors will need to stay active and engaged with campers throughout the day.
