Board Treasurer

The Treasurer will support the work of Foundation for Recovery and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance primarily through oversight of the organization’s financial health and transparent accounting practices. While day-to-day operations are led by Foundation for Recovery’s executive director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. The board treasurer is an executive and voting member of the board of directors. He/she is accountable to the Board for the fulfillment of the duties and responsibilities outlined below:Oversee, along with the organization’s leadership team, the development of high level financial policies and their review by the boardAssist the executive director in the preparation of the annual budget and its presentation to the board for reviewEnsure that the appropriate monthly or quarterly financial statements are reviewed by the boardEnsure that the board regularly monitors the organization’s financial performance and alerts it to any important discrepancies between planned and actual figuresEnsure that the organization maintains the appropriate financial books and records and that these are accurate and up-to-dateEnsure that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely basisEnsure that payroll and other liabilities are settled in a timely mannerVerify that donations are handled appropriately and that grants and service delivery contracts are accounted for in accordance with the requirements of fundersMeet with the external auditor annually or more often if needed, to identify any financial control and record keeping problems or deficiencies and oversee action by the Executive Director and financial officer to address themRecommend to the board the need for a review or renewal of the auditing services providedAssists the Executive Director and board chair with the development and presentation of the annual reportPresent or co-present the organization’s financial report and recommend appointment or reappointment of auditor at the Annual General MeetingHelps, along with the Executive Director, keep the board informed of important financial events, trends, and issues relevant to the organizationBoard Terms and ParticipationFoundation for Recovery’s Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for additional terms. Board meetings will be held quarterly via teleconference and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings. The level of participation and involvement varies but generally board members can expect a minimum of 1-5 hours per month.QualificationsThis is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Foundation for Recovery’s mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members. Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sectorA commitment to and understanding of Foundation for Recovery’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experienceExperience with government grants, nonprofit accounting, 990, and nonprofit auditsExperience presenting nonprofit financial statementsUnderstanding of IRS rules and regulations regarding 501c3 revenuePersonal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Foundation for Recovery’s beneficiariesService on Foundation for Recovery’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties.About Foundation for RecoveryFoundation for Recovery is Nevada’s largest peer-led nonprofit, providing no-cost, non-clinical recovery support services to Las Vegas residents impacted by substance use, problem gambling, and mental health disorders while creating inclusive community hubs of healing, recovery, and growth.
