We are seeking a seasoned Senior Labor Relations Manager to join a local Transit Authority team on a 6-month contract basis. This role is ideal for a skilled professional with extensive experience in labor relations and a strong history of successful negotiations within public sector or transit organizations. The successful candidate will serve as a key advisor to management on labor matters, fostering productive relationships with labor unions and representing the agency’s interests at the negotiation table.

RESPONSIBILITIES:Lead labor negotiations, representing the County Transit Authority at the bargaining table, and work to achieve positive and fair outcomes.Develop and implement labor relations strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with organizational goals and compliance requirements.Serve as a subject matter expert on labor law, contract interpretation, and dispute resolution.Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with union representatives, internal management, and stakeholders to promote collaborative and effective labor relations.Advise executive leadership on labor-related matters, potential issues, and strategies for handling complex situations.Mediate disputes and work to resolve grievances, ensuring that outcomes align with established labor agreements and organizational standards.Monitor and interpret changes in labor laws and regulations, ensuring agency compliance and updating policies accordingly.
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources, Public Administration, or a related field (law degree preferred).10+ years of progressive experience in labor relations, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management or negotiation role.Extensive experience with collective bargaining and contract administration, ideally within the public sector or transit organizations.Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.Thorough knowledge of labor laws, regulations, and practices, particularly within California’s public sector.Proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high-stakes situations.Law degree (JD) with a focus on labor law is highly desired.Experience in public sector transit or similar unionized environments is a bonus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequentlyMust be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
