Engineering Technician I/II-Facilities Management

Responsibilities: Under general supervision, responsible for maintaining the Building Automation System (BAS) for the campus HVAC systems.

Engineering Technician I: Investigates methods, materials, and equipment to be used in building automation systems; develops and implements control strategies for optimal operation of equipment; locates problems in systems; supports on-going recommissioning; prepares and initiates orders for materials and/or equipment; serves as technical consultant in computer-controlled systems; installs, repairs, replaces, and calibrates complex control system equipment and support systems; performs engineering analysis and calculations; monitors complex control systems for operation data; and performs other related duties as required.

Engineering Technician II: Serves as a lead person for upgrades and replacement to the BAS; provides training and functional supervision of Engineering Technicians I or other Merit staff; manages multiple BAS databases; investigates methods, materials, and equipment to be used in building automation systems; develops and implements control strategies for optimal operation of equipment; locates problems in systems; prepares and initiates orders for materials and/or equipment; serves as technical consultant in computer-controlled systems; installs, repairs, replaces, and calibrates complex systems for operation data; and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:

Engineering Technician I: Two years post high school education in a related technical field including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, and two years related experience, which includes regular participation in activities such as project planning, designing, ensuring code compliance, estimating project costs, investigating problems, recommending actions or similar tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience totaling four years.

Engineering Technician II: Two years post high school education in a related technical field including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, and three years related experience, which includes regular participation in activities such as project planning, designing, ensuring code compliance, estimating project costs, investigating problems, recommending actions or similar tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience totaling five years.
