SUMMARYManson is currently recruiting for full-time summer interns for Seattle-area field, marine equipment yard operations, and office estimating / engineering assignments. Interns will have the opportunity to rotate between the engineering and estimating positions working in the field or in the main office to instill a well-rounded knowledge vital to marine and heavy civil construction, and dredging.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional duties may be assigned.
Field Engineer for Construction assignments
Reporting of daily activities of a construction or yard operations crewCost and implementation comparison of as-built construction activities to the as-bid estimatesQuantity trackingFormwork and falsework detailsCoordinate with project foremen and superintendents to write work procedures for activitiesDevelopment of project work element plans and hazard analysisComputer Aided Drafting for analysis of equipment capabilities, depiction of work methods, access, and sequencing
Estimating assignments
Quantity takeoffsReading job specific specifications and standard specificationsSubcontractor and supplier coordination and quote comparisonsEstimate cost analysis and detail entryProject schedulingForm and falsework detailingEquipment analysisEnsures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCECandidates for intern positions should be actively enrolled and pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Construction Management, or another engineering related course of study from a four-year nationally accredited college or university.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust have a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and current registration as an Engineer in Training is preferred, but not required.
COMPUTER SKILLSWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document collaboration (Adobe or Bluebeam) is required, and basic knowledge or experience with AutoCAD (or similar) and scheduling software is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, for field assignments the employee is frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures.
