Job Summary:The Drug Treatment Counselor provides therapeutic support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, facilitating individual and group counseling sessions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote recovery and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment and Treatment Planning:- Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients’ substance use history, mental health status, and social circumstances.- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, ensuring they are tailored to meet each client's unique needs.
2. Counseling and Support:- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on substance use recovery, coping strategies, and life skills.- Provide crisis intervention and support to clients during challenging moments in their recovery journey.- Utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques and approaches to promote behavioral change.
3. Documentation and Compliance:- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies.- Ensure all treatment activities comply with applicable state and federal guidelines.
4. Collaboration and Referrals:- Collaborate with medical staff, social service agencies, and community resources to coordinate comprehensive care for clients.- Make appropriate referrals for additional services, such as medical care, mental health support, or vocational training.
5. Education and Advocacy:- Provide education to clients and their families about substance use disorders, treatment options, and recovery resources.- Advocate for clients’ needs within the treatment center and the broader community.
6. Participation in Professional Development:- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in addiction treatment and counseling.- Attend supervision and team meetings to contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.- Certification as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) or Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) in Maryland.- Minimum of 2 years of experience in substance use counseling or related fields.- Strong knowledge of addiction treatment modalities and recovery resources.- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Required Certifications:- **CSAC** (Certified Substance Abuse Counselor) or **LCADC** (Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor) in Maryland.- CPR/First Aid certification (may be preferred or required).
