Who you are: The Director of Tax manages all aspects of USHG’s tax strategy, compliance, and reporting. This role involves overseeing the tax planning and implementation processes, ensuring adherence to local, state, federal, and international tax regulations, and mitigating tax-related risks. The Director of Tax will work closely with internal and external teams to optimize USHG’s tax position and provide strategic input on corporate decisions that affect tax outcomes. Most importantly, this individual will foster a culture of Enlightened Hospitality for all stakeholders that supports our business objectives and growth. What you’ll do: Tax Strategy & Planning: Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to minimize tax liabilities. Provide guidance on the tax implications of entering new geographic markets, business development deals, equity transactions and legal entity structuring. Work with finance team to forecast cash and P&L tax impacts. Provide taxable income estimates to external investors on a quarterly basis Identify and evaluate potential software solutions to aid in tax reporting and compliance Proactively review new tax incentives and potential impact for USHG Tax Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, local, and other tax returns. Stay informed on changes in tax legislation and ensure compliance across jurisdictions. Lead tax audits and manage communication with tax authorities. Lead communication with external investors on K-1s and all tax related matters. Ensure compliance with operating agreements and tax statutes with respect to tax and cash distributions to external investors as well as internal profits interest holders Calculate and manage quarterly estimated tax payments Tax Reporting: Oversee the preparation of tax provisions and disclosures for financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS). Work closely with the finance and accounting teams to ensure proper tax treatment of financial transactions. Manage and own book to tax variances by legal entity Review all tax entries and tax balance sheet accounts (inclusive of deferred tax assets and tax payable liabilities) during the monthly financial close Risk Management & Advisory: Proactively manage and mitigate tax risks for the company. Liaison & Relationship Management: Manage relationships with external tax advisors, consultants, and governmental tax authorities. Ensure efficient coordination with internal departments and external auditors on tax-related matters. Perform additional responsibilities as needed and other duties as assigned to support team objectives and operational success. What we need from you: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field CPA, JD, or other relevant tax certification required. Minimum 8-10 years of experience in tax management, including significant exposure to corporate tax strategy, planning, and compliance. Strong understanding of tax law (primarily domestic), accounting principles, and regulatory requirements. Proven experience leading a tax function within a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strategic mindset. Experience with tax accounting software and financial systems. Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
