6:00am - 2:30pm (M-F)
The work involves responsibility for scheduling bus assignments and efficiently maintaining a system of bus routing in a school transportation system. The work may also involve other duties pertaining to the operation of a transportation system, including record keeping, payroll maintenance, transporting sick or injured students, dispatching, and occasional driving. Supervision may be exercised over bus drivers. Work is performed under the general direction of the assigned supervisor. A School Bus Dispatcher does related work as assigned.Typical Work Activities:
Dispatch drivers, answer phones, and relay messages to drivers;Prepare time schedules for buses and ensure timely departures and arrivals;Maintain a variety of records on mileage and gasoline usage;Maintain driver files according to NYSDMV requirements;May transport sick or hurt students from school to home;Arrange for call-in of substitute drivers and coordinate scheduling of substitute drivers to fulfill the needs of each day;Assist with updating routing information in transportation software;Communicate with parents regarding transportation;May assist in the training of new drivers;May be responsible for maintenance of time sheets and/or payroll records;May occasionally drive a bus; andPerforms other related duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.One year of experience in operating a bus; OR One year of scheduling time and work assignments for a large number of people.Possession of a valid New York State driver's license.New York State CDL Class B with air brake endorsement Driver's License must be obtained within six months of appointment. Candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver outlined in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Department of Education.Pay/Benefits:
Salary Range: $20 - $29/hour (based on experience)Medical & Dental InsurancePaid Holidays, Vacation Days, & Paid Time OffNew York State Retirement System
