Transportation Dispatcher
Purpose of the positionCoordinate dispatching communications for the Transportation Department
Essential Functions1. Monitor the safe transport of students to and from school in order to support student learning2. Contribute to student achievement by coordinating a variety of duties related to the efficient dispatching of school system transportation vehicles and personne3. Cooperate with and maintain good relationships with school personnel, school bus drivers, transportation employees, and parents4. Work cooperatively with medical/emergency staff and investigating agencies as needed5. Dispatch buses to cover routes and handle emergency situations6. Coordinate the activities of mechanics, route supervisors, and standby drivers to assist school bus drivers experiencing mechanical malfunctions7. Maintain records of all bus malfunctions, substitute bus drivers or substitute buses, and standby drivers used in place of regular school bus drivers or regularly assigned school buses8. Maintain records of all accidents/incidents and inform the Coordinator of Transportation. Refer necessary information to the insurance carrier in accordance with established procedures9. Work assigned shift as directed by the Coordinator of Transportation. Work cooperatively with normal and adjusted work hours10. Attend all mandated safety and training meetings11. Perform other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Coordinator of Transportation and Route Supervisors
Other Expectations1. Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia2. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance/timelines3. Complete assignments and requirements on time and in compliance with directions4. Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly5. Communicate effectively with transportation personnel, transportation supervisors, and parents6. Exhibit pleasant behavior and project a positive image when dealing with transportation personnel, transportation supervisors, and parentsJOB STANDARDS: (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions):7. Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent required8. Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required3.' Minimum experience of two years dispatching of vehicles with a major agency, strong general secretarial experience, and CDL student bus driving experience is preferable9. Background/training in the use of radio system communications10. Background/training in handling medical emergencies is desired11. Ability to analyze the seriousness of vehicle/bus malfunction and accidents in order to dispatch mechanics, standby drivers, supervisors, investigating agencies and medical personnel as directed by the Coordinator of Transportation12. Possess computer skills using SmartR, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and ESRI
