Unit "ICU- 2nd floorMICU some SICU"# Beds: 16Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1 to 2Required Certifications: ACLS BLS NIHSS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients: CRRT (prismaflex) rotaprone, TTM- Arctic Sun, mass transfusions, train of 4, frequently paralyze, Ecmo at times, 24 hour EEG monitoring, EVD, LP drain, Neuro surgery,MTP, traumas (drownings, tractor rollover, fractures, MVA), spinal injuries, sepsis, DKA, recover surgeries, COVID, Post heart cath- sometimes will pull sheaths, SI. Bedside procedures, trachs, CT insertion, bronchs, art line insertion, organ recovery (procurement only. no transplants done here)
Experience or 'Must have' skills: Prefer experience pulling sheaths, CRRT highly preferred. Level 2 trauma experience or above.Are RNs required to titrate drips?: yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Precedex, pressors, anti arrhythmics, sedation, common ICU drips.
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes day shift is usually a Blessing staff nurse. Nights can sometimes be the house supervisor. Take a smaller assignment so they can assist.
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Yes
Hospitalist or Intensivist in house 24/7 intensivist/ hospitalist (DR & NP)
RT in ICU 24/7 Assigned 24/7 to ICU/PCU
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) All resp eqipment
Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? There is a tele monitor tech that monitors. RNs to interpret strips. Draeger
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 3-12 hour shifts starting at 7. Will not guarantee block scheduling. Discuss with leader for any scheduling needs. Schedules out 6 weeks in advance.
Weekend Requirements Every other weekend. Sat. Sun for both shifts.
Holiday Requirements In the holiday rotation with core staff
Is there a call or standby requirement? None
Floating Requirements Float as help alls. Floating doesn't happen often. May float to PCU/ CVICU and could take patients- mostly would be help alls.
Scrub Color/Dress Code: Black
Unit/Department specific orientation 1- 12 hour shift on shift of hire and unit of hire. First day is 12-14 hours to do comps, computer based modules, general orientation.
