About This Role
The Sr. Manager, Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting position will have a key role collaborating across the Global Controllership organization to provide guidance on complex accounting issues and transactions as well as in understanding and adopting new accounting literature. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team within Carrier. This position offers career growth in a specialized financial consultancy role; expertise development and becoming a subject matter expert in technical areas of accounting and potential to have an impact on strategic financial decision and policy development.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and evaluate new accounting standards, prepare technical memos, and evaluate impact on current accounting policies
Work with global controllership organization to effectively implement new accounting pronouncements
Analyze and understand complex transactions, advising business partners on the structure and accounting for those transactions.
Work closely with the broader finance team to ensure consistent implementation of accounting guidance and disclosure
Provide training to the global accounting team and broader finance organization on technical accounting matters.
Coordinate with external auditors to address accounting matters
Actively pursue path of continuous process improvement with respect to current accounting processes
Knowledge retention - preserves institutional knowledge and expertise critical for handling complex accounting issues
Support strategic goals - ensures financial insight and accounting support are available for strategic planning and business activities.
Ensures ongoing adherence to accounting standards and regulations, minimizes risks of noncompliance
Maintain workflow and productivity within Controllership
Assist with reporting requirements as needed
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university
Licensed CPA certification
5+ years applicable work experience in technical accounting and/or advisory within public accounting or combined public/industry experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical accounting experience with Big 4 or other global accounting firm
Strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements and regulations
Strong current knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Securities and Exchange Commission reporting
Strong project management with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a team-oriented environment
Action-oriented, decisive approach to work required, with the willingness to take a hands-on role to ensure the deliverables are met on time
An ability to simplify and communicate complex accounting issues at multiple levels of an organization
Critical thinker who can foresee potential obstacles and propose alternative approaches
Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
Proficient in all Microsoft Office products with very strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills - creating clear and concise presentations is a key attribute of a successful candidate
Knowledgeable in accounting processes, controls, and sox requirements
Knowledgeable of documentation and retention requirements for external PCAOB audits
