We bring the world together with our fries.Job Description SummaryIs responsible for routine and non-routine repair and maintenance of boiler & refrigeration equipment and systems. Equipment and systems include but are not limited to plant environmental control systems, plant water systems including water conditioning systems, compressed air systems, boiler steam and condensate systems, dryer systems, raw storage environmental control systems, HVAC systems, refrigerated rooms, freezing and cold storage systems, glycol chiller systems, boiler & refrigeration heat exchangers, natural gas systems, fire protection systems and high-pressure systems.Job DescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned. Has an understanding of the refrigeration components and their functions in a refrigeration cycle. Has an eagerness to expand their knowledge and to build their skills in the operation and care of boiler and refrigeration equipment and department systems in compliance with established Company and PSM standards.Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and actively participates in safety programs.Perform assigned duties and responsibilities in a safe and satisfactory manner.Must understand and comply with all known posted or generally accepted instructions, procedures, rules, practices, policies or other items covered in the Employee Handbook.Required to pass a pulmonary/fit test annually (due to the use of SCBA).Following established procedures such as SOPs performs the safe isolation, shut down, inspection, cleaning, adjustment, repair/overhaul or startup of equipment and systems within scope of responsibility.Performs and documents line checks, corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance including the lubrication and inspection of equipment to sustain equipment reliability. Documentation may include but is not limited to SAP, Belt Tracking form, FM form, BDE card, etc...Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, and analysis of flue gases. Records tank levels, chemical and lubricant supplies. Records other readings in daily logs and sheets as assigned at the specified intervals to verify and assure optimal operating conditions.Per training and following established procedures such as SOPs becomes knowledgeable enough about boiler, refrigeration and department systems to understand proper operating and troubleshooting procedures.Becomes knowledgeable enough about equipment performance to perform adjustments, etc., as needed to assure optimal equipment performance and the production of quality potato products.To the best of their ability maintains optimal equipment operation as directed by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, seals, gaskets, valves, recorders, gages, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components. Troubleshoots and repairs equipment as needed to sustain reliable and optimal operations.Per training and following established procedures such as SOPs, adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to back-up equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.Operates and maintains steam, condensate and water conditioning systems. Performs tests, and adds chemicals and/or makes operational adjustments as indicated by the testing procedures to protect, optimize and sustain healthy steam and condensate systems.To the best of their ability performs and documents troubleshooting of issues such as mechanical, electrical and pneumatic to identify defects, identify the reason for the failure, determine root cause and to take corrective action to eliminate recurring failure.To the best of their ability performs non-routine jobs assigned by Boiler & Refrigeration Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, Team Leader Production, or Plant Management and will perform jobs with some oversight as required.Required to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to advance from a 3rd Class Boiler & Refrigeration Operator to a 2nd Class Boiler & Refrigeration Operator within the maximum allotted time of 12 months from the date of hire or transfer as 3rd Class. Passing grade for all written examinations must be 75% or better.The two-part advancement test to the 2nd Class level consists of 1) A written test and 2) A hands-on validation of some advanced troubleshooting skills.Failure to pass the 2nd Class advancement test will result in termination or reassignment outside the maintenance department.Must be able to work the scheduled days, shifts, times and overtime required for this position.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Basic & Preferred QualificationsEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; one-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of two years education and related experience and/or training. Prior experience with ammonia systems, boilers and electrical troubleshooting and welding is a definite advantage. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write accurate information in English. Ability to effectively present or listen to information in oneonone and small group situations with all other employees of the organization in English.
