POSITION SUMMARY

Barton Malow is seeking a Data and AI Engineer Intern to join us next summer, working out of our Southfield, MI office. This internship offers hands-on experience in software engineering, web development, data engineering, and AI projects, including creating data pipelines, performing data transformations, and writing code for both backend and frontend applications. You'll work with programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, Go, and SQL. This role also includes exposure to MLOps and DevOps practices, allowing you to contribute to the development of critical data and software infrastructure that drives innovation and efficiency.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Data Pipeline Development:

Assist in designing, creating, and maintaining data pipelines to ensure the efficient flow of data across systems using Python, Typescript and SQL.Data Transformation:

Engage in data transformation tasks, including cleaning, manipulating, and refining data for analysis and decision-making.AI, Data Engineering, and Software Development Projects:

Contribute to projects that integrate AI, data engineering, and software development to enhance Barton Malow's technological footprint.Coding and Testing:

Write and test code for backend and frontend applications, gaining a full-stack perspective by working alongside senior engineers.Data Storage Solutions:

Support scalable data storage solutions, learning how large datasets are stored for optimal accessibility and performance.Data Quality and Integrity:

Help implement data quality checks and integrity measures to ensure reliable data for analytics and reporting.MLOps and DevOps Practices:

Learn and assist in MLOps and DevOps processes, contributing to streamlined deployment and monitoring of data and software engineering projects.Collaboration and Learning:

Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and learning opportunities, contributing to collaborative projects and gaining insight into industry standards.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data engineering, software engineering, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.Basic knowledge of programming languages like Typescript, Python, and SQL; familiarity with additional languages such as Go.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to data integrity and quality.Familiarity with software engineering concepts; familiarity with data pipelines, ETL processes, and data storage solutions is a bonus.Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
