This includes a uniformed presence in the downtown business district and public beach and pier areas to help ensure the public peace and safety, and other duties as assigned. The employee acts as the "extra set of eyes" for the police patrol officers; performs patrol duties for assigned areas. The employee prepares, documents, and submits accurate reports. The employee ensures equipment and uniforms are maintained and serviceable at all times. Employee assist with parking enforcement and traffic control when directed. Employee must exercise independent and sound judgment and display initiative in applying work methods to emergency situations which arise when superior officers are not immediately available. Work requires dedication to public service often made difficult by emotional or physical stress of events. Work is usually performed in accordance with well-defined procedures and reviewed through conferences, written reports, inspections, and observation of results obtained. This is a specialized job in the law enforcement job classification that is not a sworn officer position. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screens. Essential Functions ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Daily non-enforcement service tasks.Patrols the downtown business district and public beach and pier areas.Prevents under-age persons from drinking alcohol by being present.Checks locks on doors and gates to ensure security for the night.Assists with security patrols during City events, as scheduled.Assist with parking enforcement and traffic control as directed.Reports to the police dispatcher any evidence of criminal activity.Communicates with residents and visitors within the City of Fairhope.Prevention of crime through observation and communication with law enforcement officers. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications Possess a high school diploma or GED.Must be at least twenty (21) years of age and a U.S. citizen.Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in security patrol activities or equivalent; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job.Possess a current and valid driver's license; must be insurable.Ability to complete and maintain first aid and cardio-pulmonary (CPR) certifications.Ability to wear appropriate uniforms and safety equipment.Ability to work nonstandard hours, rotating shifts, and emergency call- backs.Ability to travel throughout the City, as assigned.Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.
