Position: Information Science Specialist

Position SummaryThis position will support the US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) vision to ensure long-term preservation of and access to DOE scientific and technical information through the curation of research documents dating back to the 1940s.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Position-Specific Duties
Independently reviews, curates, and edits metadata for scientific and technical information publications, including journal articles, technical reports, patents, videos, and software on a tight production schedule, working with scientific and technical information from a variety of contributors, with the aim of producing high quality information records.Review various journal and publisher pages to determine copyright permissions, article status, and appropriate metadata.Collaborates with other IT (Information Technology) and Information Science professionals to facilitate the upkeep of metadata and documents within OSTI’s electronic collection.Participate in the assignment and organization of related and persistent identifiers for different scientific research product types.Provide detailed analysis and management of scientific research products.Interact closely with subject matter experts, team partners, editors, writers, graphic designers, developers, and administrators to prepare, test, and produce product in various formatsMake decisions independently related to technical and creative content and products that are critical to mission success.Build relationships with client staff and gatekeepers, including staff with the DOE HQ, and leverage those relationships to ensure effective delivery of communications and mission-critical products.Creates and edits deliverables and reports in various formats to support the mission of DOE OSTI.Create complex management content, technical documents, and reference materials.Edit documents for grammar, style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to specific requirements.Evaluate and provide feedback on draft products and reports.Support product managers and attend product and program reviews.Perform related duties as required.
Education, Training, Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferred) in Information Science or Library Science.Previous Information Science experience is preferred.Background knowledge of science or science librarianship preferred.0-3 years relevant experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated excellent customer service.Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in written format.Good overall computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other MS Office applications.Strong planning and organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on delivery.Self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible; works well under pressure and adheres to tight deadlines.Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of an organizationAbility to work as part of a diverse team.Ability to translate technical information to an audience-appropriate level.Thorough knowledge of English grammar, syntax, and spelling.Thorough knowledge of editorial and publication techniques, procedures and standards for print and web publishing operations.
Physical Abilities
Ability to sit for extended periods of time.Ability to view computer monitor for extended periods of time.
Ability to provide proof of US Citizenship on your first day of employment to obtain a DOE HSPD-12 Badge in accordance with the terms of the contract. Department of Energy OSTI's policy direction requires all employees employed on this contract to be citizens of the United States.
