Position Summary
The Health Care Assistant / Procedure Scheduler is a key member of the patient care team and vital to MSU Health Care clinical operations. Under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals, the role performs a variety of clinical and administrative support tasks in the outpatient clinic. This role provides support for physicians and other clinicians in the delivery of high-quality health care. The successful candidate will perform front and back-office duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in the use word processing and database software, a specified medical course such as Nurse Health Aid and Phlebotomy, or Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience. May require knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems. May require certification as a medical assistant.
Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with medical terminology; experience in scheduling, screening, and confirming medical appointments, surgeries, and procedures using a computerized information system; current or prior experience obtaining/checking authorizations; experience scanning documents and handling a multi-line phone system.
Prefer one year of work-related experience in a medical office clinical setting with medical terminology, scheduling procedures and/or surgeries.
Must have a strong desire and/or experience to work with a patient population that is diverse socially, financially, and ethnically.
Must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision completing assignments accurately.
Prefer Medical Assistant certification within 1 year of hire.
Current BLS certification preferred.
