Base pay rate:

$70,000 - $90,000/annual

The Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC) is a one-of-a-kind, 75-acre property nestled in the heart of Griffith Park, dedicated to the love of horses and the equestrian community. LAEC offers a welcoming space for equine enthusiasts and professionals alike, providing boarding facilities, training arenas, and a calendar of events that range from local competitions to prestigious equestrian showcases. In addition to serving as a hub for horse-related activities, LAEC is also home to various special events, blending the charm of nature with the energy of LA's cultural scene.

Summary:

The Equestrian Event Operations Manager at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC) leads the coordination, execution, and pre/post event management for horse shows and other equestrian events at the venue. This role involves overseeing operations for large-scale equestrian events as well as other equestrian focused special events. The position requires a balance of equine industry knowledge and event logistics expertise, ensuring seamless event experiences that meet LAEC’s high standards for safety and service.

Essential Job Functions

Horse Show Manager Duties:

Horse Show Operations: Oversee all aspects of horse show logistics, including arena setup, stable assignments, sale of shavings, feed, hay and other items as necessary, including parking, and spectator seating.

Vendor and Client Relations: Work closely with event promoters, vendors, and clients to manage horse show requirements, schedules, and support services.

Safety and Compliance: Implement biosecurity measures and ensure compliance with all animal welfare and equestrian safety regulations.

On-Site Show Management: Act as the main point of contact during horse shows, coordinating with equine staff, veterinarians, security, and emergency services as needed.

Permits and Licensing: Acquire necessary permits for each horse show, ensuring compliance with local, state, and industry regulations.

Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for horse show operations, tracking expenses and ensuring financial objectives are met.

Equipment and Facility Management: Manage equestrian-specific equipment and site preparation, including jumps, barriers, and safety materials.

Industry Engagement: Maintain current knowledge of equestrian industry trends, standards, and regulations, ensuring LAEC remains competitive and compliant.

Show Areas: Manage the setup and breakdown of event venues, including stalls and rings.

Reports: Compile reports and data for the General Manager.

Assist as needed with large boarding operation on site to ensure that equestrian events and boarding compliment each other thru operational efficiencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Equine Management, Event Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered.

Experience:3+ years in event operations or venue management, with specific experience in equestrian centers, sports complexes, or large event venues preferred.

Technical Skills:Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), project management software, and familiarity with CAD drawings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Horse show and equestrian event operations, arena preparation, and equine safety.

Private event and special event logistics and site management.

LAEC facilities, infrastructure, and compliance requirements.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong project management, organizational, and multitasking skills.

Proficiency in client relations and real-time problem solving.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.

Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be comfortable working in outdoor conditions, standing for long periods, lifting items up to 7525 pounds, and handling physically demanding tasks. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
