The CTDO Project Director - Innovation is a leader in the PMO organization. Acting as the agent for the project sponsor, the CTDO Project Director will be responsible for managing large, complex programs and/or projects, managing project budgets, and be responsible for supervising 2-4 project managers on the team. He/she is responsible for initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the projects following MD Anderson methodology standards. These projects address the operational needs of multiple departments to deliver specified requirements, meet customer satisfaction, timely delivery, within budget, and with quality results. The position ensures appropriate management, customer, and supplier involvement throughout the life cycle of the project.

Program/Project management oversight, leadership and expertise

Manages programs or multiple large Innovation projects.

Defines and organizes programs by attending leadership discussions and by actively capturing requirements.

Responsible for team oversight to ensure successful execution of project implementations, including assessing and reporting overall program progress to leadership.

Develops and manages program and project expectations of all project stakeholders including sponsors, steering team, customers, users, and project team. Translates generalized customer business goals and objectives into concrete strategic and tactical plans.

Demonstrates strong leadership, facilitation, negotiation, mentoring, conflict resolution and resource management skills, with an organizational awareness.

Develops and maintains optimal/effective relationships with programs/projects internal and external customers and vendors.

Communicates effectively with stakeholders and project teams and escalates project issues to management in a timely manner.

Establishes and maintains positive relationships with key stakeholders associated with the program-project including those lead by a direct report.

Adheres to MDACC CTDO Governance procedures and Project Management Methodology. Completes and presents project documentation in a timely manner and as required for reporting to CTDO review groups and governance committees.

Devises and initiates actions to keep programs and projects on schedule, within budget and scope. Provides weekly updates and communicates status of all tasks of the project teams.

Communicates project/program quarterly wins to stakeholders and lessons learned as projects closeout.

Cultivates skills and knowledge of Institution business practices to command a working knowledge procurement and budgets to include ability to analyze and review budgetary information to determine the impact on the program or project.

Participates as an active member of the Project Management Methodology workgroup.

14 Backs up Manager to represent CTDO PMO when manager is not available.

Oversight for the development, enhancement and/or implementation of systems, application

Defines system functional requirements using workflow analysis, regulatory and standards review, industry best practices, and other relevant sources using PMO designated tools.

Develops and documents project scope and schedule in collaboration with project sponsors and key team members to ensure that the project is defined and reduces future risks and issues.

Ensures customer review and approval of system requirements, system configuration, testing results validation, system readiness for go-live and final customer acceptance.

Ensures that project team and end-user input is incorporated into all implementation activities and deliverables based on the defined Project Management Methodology guidelines.

Ensures the design, configuration and setup of all system inputs, outputs and interfaces meet the business needs of the customer

Documents decision-making processes undertaken with customers that lead to content decisions

Works with technical team members to document technical requirements, specifications and design for system hardware, software and architecture.

Coordinates development/delivery of training for end-users and customer groups

Coordinates development of production support model for the production system.

Supports / mentors direct reports working on implementations by reviewing, providing constructive feedback and guidance on their assignments for quality and completeness.

Comfortable operating with limited guidance and flexible to adjust

Resource Management

Adheres to established parameters for project resource management, including personnel, technical, schedule and financial.

Defines, prioritizes, coordinates and manages the work of the project team. Participates in project review activities as required

Establishes and maintains current project schedules and keeps management informed of resource status as needed

Establishes and maintains a current project budget and keeps management informed of budget status as needed.

Manages all project expenses and related financial resources.

Provides feedback to appropriate management on team member's contributions and performance.

Conduct 1:1 meetings with direct reports

Make sure direct reports meet requirements from the Institution, Division, and/or Department

Provide annual performance evaluations

Handle any disciplinary actions needed for direct reports

Coach and mentor direct reports

Approve time off and telecommuting requests

Help resolve any project issues for the projects being managed by direct reports

Take point on hiring replacements for positions that report directly to this position

Other duties as assigned

Education Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree

Experience Required : Seven years of project management experience to include five years' experience in application and/or infrastructure services. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one-to-one basis. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred Experience:

Experience leading through implementation large-scale and high-complex programs or projects that were implemented enterprise-wide.

Project management experience in executing vendor agreements, defining project scopes, planning detailed schedules, budget cost control, quality management, execution of defined deliverables, and closing projects.

Experience with implementing innovation and technology solutions.

Experience managing direct reports.
