Job Description:
Hiscox is seeking an Underwriter for our Underwriting Solutions Team in Atlanta.
This is an exciting opportunity to support our growing Retail Traded portfolios and lead a line of business team of underwriters to successful results through entry level to intermediate underwriting authority and activities for small business.
The Underwriter acts as a key ambassador for both the UST and Hiscox, fostering and managing relationships with a diverse range of brokers.
In this role you will mature your understanding of our products, demonstrated through active engagement with line of business practice leaders.
Key Responsibilities:Build and manage relationships with brokers to represent UST and Hiscox effectively.Serve as a frontline contact to brokers, making informed recommendations to Product leads and learn how to advocate for an insured's needs.Manage time efficiently, including assisting team members when appropriate.Consistently achieve production goals.Maintain a positive demeanor and strong interpersonal skills, even in challenging situations.Handle day-to-day responsibilities proactively with minimal supervision.Deliver quality work consistently, both internally and with brokers, and pass audits.Make informed decisions swiftly using critical thinking, asking questions, and collaborating when needed.Understand and promote business goals, such as book mix and budget, and holds self-accountable to pursue these objectives.Demonstrate flexibility in underwriting, decision-making, and team interactions.Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Track record of quality work and accountabilityAbility to build relationships and communicate effectively with brokers.Baseline expertise in product knowledge and underwriting processes.Time management skills with the capacity to manage work assignments and daily quoting goals.Resilient and positive attitude in the face of adversity.Proactive approach to managing responsibilities and improving performance.Critical thinker with the ability to make quick decisions and collaborate when necessary.Flexibility in daily operations and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities.Qualifications Summary:
Experience:
1-2 years of insurance or related business experience.Communication and Relationships:
Excellent communication abilities and a talent for building and maintaining relationships.Decision Quality:
Independent thinker with the capacity to evaluate risks using various inputs, not solely based on Underwriting Guidelines.Results-Driven:
Focused on driving not just personal success, but also team success, with a consistent record of finding ways to win.Risk Assessment:
Demonstrated skills in evaluating risks, with a proven ability to achieve levels of authority in products managed.Courage:
The confidence to decline risks when necessary and to advocate for the insured.Sales and Negotiation:
