Hours will vary and may include daytime, evening, holidays, night, and weekend shifts, with occasional overtime as needed and available during SGEC's largest events.

$21.64 Hourly
Position Overview
The Assistant Food and Beverage Manager supports the Food and Beverage Manager in the day-to-day operations of cafes and catering, requiring a flexible schedule based on event needs. The role assists in managing the food and beverage department, helping ensure successful event service while focusing on operational efficiency, training, and staff coordination. The Assistant Manager will act in the capacity of the Food and Beverage Manager during their absence, ensuring continuity of operations.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations. Comfortable working long hours during events. Ability to work at a sitting computer for extended periods. Ability to work in adverse climates including but not limited to work in non-airconditioned or heated buildings on a limited basis indoors/outdoors for events. Must pass a background and reference check; employment is contingent upon successful completion. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment with fluctuating guest flows. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook. Experience in food & beverage service, event management, or equivalent. Experience with various F&B services, from fast food to catering and bar setups. Supervisory and teamwork skills in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment with fluctuating guest flows. Strong organizational skills with the ability to create processes and documentation for consistency in service. Must possess necessary licenses from Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (Liquor Server, Liquor Manager, Restricted/Shift Manager food handler permits) at time of hire. Preferred but not Required Qualifications Experience in catering and banquet sales. Interest in contributing to the organization beyond the role, with potential involvement in guest services, ticketing, or merchandising projects. Valid Nebraska Driver's License. Reliable form of transportation to perform essential functions of the position including but not limited to in town travel. Essential Duties

Guest and Event Services
Assist the Food and Beverage Manager in developing tailored solutions for various events, including menus, themes, and décor for different seasons. Help coordinate on-call, part-time food & beverage staff and guest services personnel to support event needs (setup/teardown, service, inventory, cleaning, etc.). Assist with event setup/teardown for food and beverage services, temporary pop-up stands, and bars. Oversee food stands and assist in directing team members to ensure smooth operations during events. Provide support with cash handling responsibilities, disperse cash drawers to employees at registers, and ensuring proper cash handling procedures are followed. Collaborate with the Food & Beverage Manager to deliver customer-pleasing and profitable F&B services, ranging from quick service to banquets and catering. Ensure long-term collaboration with sponsors, partners, and vendors by fostering positive relationships. Team Management
Assist with food and beverage promotions through signage and marketing efforts. Help recruit, hire, and train staff members as needed. Train new team members, focusing on key skills such as portion control and customer service, under the guidance of the Food and Beverage Manager. Support the Food and Beverage Manager in managing staff scheduling and supervision to align with event demands. Obtain and manage liquor SDLs (Special Designated Licenses) for events as required. Assist with managing the General Store operations and support the Food and Beverage Manager in staffing decisions. Department Organization
Assist in implementing cost control measures in inventory, labor, and menu planning. Oversee day-to-day inventory management, including ordering supplies, with direction from the Food and Beverage Manager. Help maintain food, beverage, and alcohol certifications for staff and the facility. Ensure proper portion control, menu consistency, and staff training compliance under the Food and Beverage Manager's direction. Assist in the review of food and beverage training, inventory, menu setups, and vendor relationships to improve overall efficiency and quality. Serve as the acting Food and Beverage Manager when the Food and Beverage Manager is unavailable due to absence or other circumstances. Assume responsibility for supervising staff, managing events, and overseeing operations to ensure the continuity of service. Report directly to the Operations Director during these periods, keeping them informed of decisions, progress, and any issues that arise. • Ensure all actions align with organizational goals and procedures, maintaining communication with relevant departments. Assist in managing liquor event licenses and permits in coordination with the Food and Beverage Manager. Support improvements in the responsible liquor server program as directed by management. Travel
Limited, Local out of office for personal development and professional relationship development. Mainly for personal development conferences, large events sales trips, shopping, or other rare occasions. Non-Essential Duties Other Duties as assigned.
