Assistant or Associate Professor, Palliative Care

Recruitment began on September 24, 2024 and the job listing expires on November 25, 2024.The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch and an appropriate Division at the UW depending on training and specialty. Academic appointments at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.The selected individual is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in palliative care. This position is in the Clinician Scholar track.The successful candidate will have clinical responsibilities on the outpatient and/or inpatient palliative care service based on the candidate’s interests (and institutional need). This will comprise approximately 40% of the faculty member’s time.Ten percent of the faculty member’s time will be protected for administrative oversight of Palliative Care-related fellowship activities for medical oncology and palliative care fellows. Teaching responsibilities will include clinical oversight of fellows, informal teaching sessions, and formal lectures to learners, providers, and the general medical community. The balance of time will be spent in research-related activities.QualificationsApplicants must have an MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification (or be board eligible for current palliative care fellows) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. While individuals with primary training in internal medicine are preferred, applicants with other training may apply (e.g. family medicine, anesthesiology, rehabilitation, psychiatry, surgery, etc.).The ideal candidate will have a record of and primary interest in palliative care research, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, grants and/or clinical trial experience, as well as experience teaching palliative care learners.Other Preferred QualificationsPrior experience working clinically with individuals with hematologic malignanciesWillingness to work at Fred Hutch’s South Lake Union, UW Montlake or other UW sites, and/or community or acquisition sitesExperience working with diverse patient populationsNative or near-native fluency in a language other than EnglishApplication InstructionsInterested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a concise statement of career goals including a description of clinical research goals and a diversity statement describing your past contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion and your future plans for continuing these efforts (two pages or less), and a list of five (5) references, along with a letter of application addressed to: Dr. Elizabeth Loggers. References will not be contacted without first discussing this with the applicant.The annual base salary range for this position is from $208,780 to $453,269 for faculty hired at the Assistant Professor rank, from $247,400 to $501,175 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank. Pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for relocation assistance and sign-on bonus.
