Assistant or Associate Professor, Palliative Care

Date: September 24, 2024The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch and an appropriate Division at the UW depending on training and specialty. Academic appointments at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. University of Washington assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and associate professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.The selected individual is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in palliative care. This position is in the Clinician Scholar track.The successful candidate will have clinical responsibilities on the outpatient and/or inpatient palliative care service based on the candidate’s interests (and institutional need). This will comprise approximately 40% of the faculty member’s time.Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification (or be board eligible for current palliative care fellows) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.While individuals with primary training in internal medicine are preferred, applicants with other training may apply (e.g. family medicine, anesthesiology, rehabilitation, psychiatry, surgery, etc.). The successful applicant will be board certified (or be board eligible for current fellows) in their primary area of training.The ideal candidate will have a record of and primary interest in palliative care research, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, grants and/or clinical trial experience, as well as experience teaching palliative care learners.Other Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working clinically with individuals with hematologic malignanciesWillingness to work at Fred Hutch’s South Lake Union, UW Montlake or other UW sites, and/or community or acquisition sitesExperience working with diverse patient populationsNative or near-native fluency in a language other than EnglishThe annual base salary range for this position is from $208,780 to $453,269 for faculty hired at the Assistant Professor rank, from $247,400 to $501,175 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank. Pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for relocation assistance and sign-on bonus.
