LyondellBasell is looking for an experienced Government Relations Manager to join our Federal Government Relations team based in Washington DC. This individual will serve as a registered lobbyist and advance policies on the federal level that promote the company's sustainability and circularity ambitions, as well as work closely with trade associations and coalitions to further advance priority issues impacting the company. This role will work cross-functionally throughout the company to manage a portfolio of key issues at the federal level as well as coordinate with the state team. The Manager, Government Relations must have a solid understanding of substantive policy and business issues associated with the industrial sector, preferably the petrochemical industry. This position reports to the Director, Federal Government Relations.
Roles & ResponsibilitiesRepresent LYB in all interactions with federal regulators, legislators, and officials in meetings and public events as a registered lobbyist.Identify, track, and internally communicate regulatory and legislative developments and emerging trends.Advance the company's reputation with government stakeholders and elected officials; drive advocacy outreach and engagement with an emphasis on outreach to executive branch agencies.Track and respond to administrative requests and congressional inquiries on policy issues.Work with internal stakeholders to develop a strategy related to government funding, particularly as it relates to decarbonization and circularity.Draft comments, talking points, and memos for both internal and external use.Initiate and staff visits to LyondellBasell facilities.Represent the LYB PAC at Congressional fundraisers, and assist in PAC special events, such as internal webinars and town halls.
Min. QualificationsBachelor's Degree required, preferably in public policy, political science, business, communications, or journalism.4-5 years of relevant work experience, specifically in a Government Relations capacity for a U.S. federal agency, U.S. Congressional office, mid-large size company, or trade association.Proven contacts with key government officials and offices.Strong understanding of political, legislative, and regulatory processes at the federal level.Subject matter knowledge of US energy policies and key legislation (IRA, BIL) and implications to petrochemicals sustainability projects.Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with a confidence and comfort of interacting directly with corporate executives, senior business leaders, government officials and key stakeholders.Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.Experience managing multiple demands and constituents while meeting deadlines and staying organized in a complex business environment.Ability to continuously improve processes.Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment, with exceptional attention to detail and timing of deadlines.
