The Opportunity: As a PLA Academic Program Manager, you will ensure the PLA academic program model is executed accurately.
You will support teaching staff and interventionists with lessons, small group instruction, pacing, assessments, rostering, and training. Our Academic Program Managers drive towards excellence by creating positive and supportive relationships with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff. Having high expectations and holding to our academic model ensures every scholar's ability to succeed.
In addition to serving on the school leadership team, you will engage in seminars, workshops, practicums, task completion, coaching, and mentorship. The position is designed to prepare highly qualified candidates who are knowledgeable, trained, equipped, and ready to implement the PLA model and lead PLA schools to success.The Details:Key Deliverables:Ensuring the school increases by a minimum of 7% in proficiency per year in both ELA and math on the state accountability testEnsures the execution of the PLA Academic Model is taking place in the school and holds staff accountable for the execution of the modelSupport teachers and reading interventionists with lesson planning and pacingEnsure the master schedule is followed by teachers and interventionistsModel small group and whole group lessons as neededEnsure data collection of weekly and interim assessments leads to appropriate small-group instructionCreate instructional pacing guides for schoolEnsure teachers stay on track with the pacing guidesEnsure all scholars take PLA common formative assessmentsEnsure Live School is utilized by all teachers, interventionists, and administratorsEnsure Live School behaviors are recorded at a 3:1 ratio (3 positives to every demerit)Ensure rostering for all academic programs is currentSupport and provide program training as neededDevelops positive and supportive relationships with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff across partner schoolsAdditional responsibilities as assignedExperience and Education Requirements:A passion for working with students and families in under-served communitiesBachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree, preferredValid State Administrative LicenseHigh proficiency in grade-level standards, benchmarks, and curriculumExperience tracking and using data to drive instructionDemonstrates organizational and time management skillsSupports Instructional Reviews across the RegionAttend Admin meetings and other partnership meetings as assignedSupport the overall school structure where needed (hallways, lunchroom, arrivals, departures, etc.)Additional responsibilities as assignedThe Network: PLA is a transformative education nonprofit changing communities across the country by providing a depth of resources not found in the traditional education model.
In addition to serving as one of the country’s best turnaround school operators and successfully launching charter school start-ups, PLA also provides our school communities with a successful, research-based summer learning program (Summer Advantage), a successful Reading and Math Intervention program (Reading and Math Advantage), and a workforce development program (PLA University) that provides expanded opportunities for our high school graduates, along with the family members of our current staff and students. This menu of programs and services is unique to our network, sets us apart from other organizations, and provides expanded opportunities for our staff through career advancement opportunities, and expanded income opportunities.
The Campus: Hope Community PCS - Tolson is a public charter school in Washington, D.C. that was founded in 2006 and recently joined the PLA network in 2022. We serve about 250 scholars from PK - 8th grade with a school population that is reflective of the strength and diversity of the community in which we are privileged to serve. We pride ourselves on our STEAM-focused learning that results in scholars taking risks, engaging in learning, and having ownership of their education.
