Job Title: Property AccountantReports To: Controller, CFO
Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Controller, the Property Accountant will be responsible for the day to day accounting activities for various properties.Responsibilities include financial statement preparation, review and analysis, bank reconciliation preparation, research, payable review, and assisting the accounting department with financial projects as needed.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for monthly financial statement preparation for assigned properties. Which includes interpreting and analyzing financial reports on a monthly basis, including analysis and reconciliation of required balance sheet accounts based upon information received.Preparation of accounting tasks, including bank reconciliations, management fee calculations, and journal entries.Reconcile bank statements on a monthly basis.Research and correct all reconciling items pertaining to the cash accounts.Responsible for review of accounts payable for accuracy, coding, and approval.Assist Accounting Manager with special transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing of properties.Assist external auditors with year-end audits on select properties.Meet all internal and external client reporting deadlines.Prepare wires/transfers for monthly distributions, mortgage payments, etc.Assist operations team with Quarterly/Annual budget projections.Perform other duties as necessary
Competencies/SkillsProblem solving and analytical skillsMust communicate effectively, both orally and in writingHighly organized and detail orientedAbility to work independently as well as being collaborative with others within the organizationAbility to multi-task and meet deadlinesStrong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and income tax knowledge.
Knowledge/ExperienceBA/BS degree in Accounting is requiredMinimum of 2 years of real estate/property management experienceKnowledge of Yardi is requiredYardi and/or Timberline experience is a plusMust be at least an intermediate level Excel user, as well as proficient in Word and Outlook
