Consumer/Investigative Reporter - NBC 10 Boston
Full-timeBusiness Segment: NBCUniversal LocalNBC10 Boston and NECN, the NBC Owned Television Stations, are looking for a passionate, experienced, and innovative consumer/investigative reporter to join our special projects team. You’ll be working out of a new state-of-the-art broadcast media center that is home to NBC 10 Boston, NECN, Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra and NBC Sports Boston.The successful candidate will be expected to enterprise and produce consumer and investigative news stories and contribute to major breaking news events for NBC10 and NECN. We pride ourselves on being the only local news station committed to helping our viewers solve consumer problems and work to get their money back through our Responds brand. This role would be responsible for handling those responsibilities in addition to turning investigative content. We are building a culture of innovation and experimentation. We are looking for a creative thinker who is willing to experiment with telling stories in non-traditional ways to reach new audiences across any device.The applicant should have a good understanding of how to deliver meaningful and impactful stories for our digital and broadcast platforms. An understanding of how to tell stories on our digital platforms is a must.
This is not an entry level position.
Responsibilities
Research, develop, write, and produce enterprise consumer and investigative news storiesTake ownership over our Responds brand by working to resolve consumer complaints from viewers, interview people we’ve helped and produce regular Responds packages for broadcast and digital.Generate quick turn consumer and investigative packages while juggling longer turn stories.Enterprise consumer/investigative content across all on-air and digital platformsDevelop and maintain sources that will generate exclusive reportsContribute research and analysis on major breaking news eventsAbility to add depth and provide context to big stories, especially consumer and investigative storiesStrong ad-lib skills to calmly and effectively deliver news reportsCollaborate with the news team including anchors, reporters, assignment desk, producers and digital team.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as an investigative or consumer journalistImpeccable reporting and storytelling skillsDemonstrated ability to use digital platforms to reach audiencesUnderstanding of how to engage audiences on social mediaAbility to present stories for all station platformsWillingness to perform basic video shooting and editing as neededStrong understanding and demonstration of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulationsDemonstrated ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions, and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environmentBilingual in English and SpanishUnderstanding of computer-assisted reporting and working with spreadsheet programsUnderstanding of emerging news production techniques and technology, with a pioneering spirit and desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the futureGood collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levelsBelieves that teams are smarter and more dynamic togetherExperience being actively engaged in editorial processes and meetings
