Job Description
Required:
Associates Degree required in Education, Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, or Business. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish. Must be computer literate.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Education, Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, or Business.
Equivalency : Other relevant applicant degrees and experience will be considered as related to the standard duties as outlined OR any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resources Department.

Located in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is a newly independent public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Position Overview:
Under supervision of the Adult Education Director, implement approved curriculum and educational programs for adults; promote programs through community networking and recruiting efforts and advise, test, and teach Adult Education students in a variety of subjects.
Work Schedule: AM/PM
Note:
This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding. Positions are part time temporary assignments that are based on the needs of the College.
Purpose and Scope:
The duties below are representative of the role and are intended to cover only some of the duties performed within the scope of work.
Instruct adult students, ages 16 and older, using program-selected text and curriculum.
Develop lesson plans that provide instruction using a variety of strategies, including lecture, individualized, discussion, project, computer-assisted, student-led, etc.
Utilize ongoing assessment and counsel students about their progress.
Individualize instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners (Multi-cultural, multi-ability).
Assist with registration, student success orientation, and student goal setting.
Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, and ensure timely submission of data for National Reporting System input.
Responsible for effective classroom management that enhances student learning.
Ability to build a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate the maturity and interests of students. Ability to relate well to different groups of students of different ages and ability levels.
Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and through correct written grammar and usage.
Maintain professional and academic competencies and participate in professional development activities including staff meetings and trainings.
Act as liaison to other departments regarding AE inquiries.
Familiarize self with community resources, individual tutoring services, and employment resources and talk regularly to his/her class about these resources.
Ability to follow and apply campus policies and procedures.
Responsible for teaching Adult Education/ESL courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting. Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students, which increases literacy and workforce development skills.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
