Human Resources Generalist Position Description
Department Overview
The Human Resources Office at the University of St. Thomas is entrusted with the critical task of upholding sound business and financial practices in strict adherence to federal and state regulations, university policies, established business protocols, and which reflect the University's Catholic identity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The below stated are intended to describe the general nature and scope of the work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.Provides expertise on a board and comprehensive range of human resources activities including recruitment, compensation, performance management, talent development, employment transactions, policy compliance, and other related HR functional areas;Maintains knowledge of University policies, processes, and resources;Approves personnel actions to include, but not limited to, compensation and classification changes, personnel transactions, and other related HR transactions;Reviews and verifies incoming and outgoing documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established policies and procedures;Advises employees and managers regarding benefits and leave programs (i.e., short-term disability, long-term disability, family medical leave (FMLA), etc.);Assists with projects to improve the quality of HR services provided;Assists in the planning, development, and modification of human resources programs to better serve the needs of the University;Organizes workflow and maintains order in such a way that meets internal and external expectations. This will require juggling multiple projects and managing numerous deadlines in an environment where business needs may change, and priorities may require constant reshuffling;Processes all documents and employee information in PeopleSoft in a timely fashion by keeping employee records up-to-date;Assists in the development, implementation, and/or delivery of training on personnel policies, procedures, and practices;Composes written correspondence; and performs other job-related duties assigned.Provides technical support assistance for data capture and report generation or analytics efforts; assists in performing audits of PeopleSoft data; and processes transactions.Interview and direct the recruiting and hiring of staff, faculty, and temporary employees;Coordinate all adjunct faculty hiring;Research employee relations issues including conducting meetings with employees and supervisors;Ensure compliance with various regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, FLSA, EEOC, DOL, ADA, Texas Payday Laws, Worker's Compensation, FMLA, and USERRA;Ensure I-9 compliance and other regulatory legal compliance requirements;Education, Knowledge, and Skills:
Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;Ability to protect confidential information and communicate with impeccable discretion in all matters related to employees and internal processes;Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities;Knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and processes;Knowledge of current federal and state employment law and regulations;Ability to analyze complex information and to define and solve problems;Minimum of two years of experience managing Worker's Compensation and unemployment claims.Minimum of five years experience in an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner role with an emphasis on recruiting and employee relations. A thorough knowledge of employee benefits is preferred.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.Prior experience with PeopleSoft and ApplicantPro a plus.
Working Conditions:
You will work regular office hours from Monday through Friday in a general office setting.
