Raytheon Vision Systems Mechanical Department in Raytheon Intelligence and Space seeks a Section Leader to manage the Mechanical Space Design group. The SL is responsible for the direct supervision of approximately 15 Engineering and Technical Support members that provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the bid, design, documentation, build, and integration of Space market focal plane hardware. The candidate oversees the mechanical engineering discipline supporting a variety of programs primarily in Goleta, California. Key interfaces will be with other sections across the Department/Center, other Engineering disciplines, as well as other functions in the programs supported by the section. The SL should be familiar with the design environment and documentation methods. This role is 80% hands-on technical contribution to programs and 20% functional team leadership. The SL shall be a highly motivated “self-starter” able to lead by example. Candidate will be expected to follow established procedures in creation of technical data package work products, while working closely with program management and functional supervision to ensure the overall design objectives are met. What You Will Do Supervise and lead a team of approximately 15 members Interface between the Space section personnel and supported programs Oversight of technical, cost, and schedule for products generated by the members of the section Decisions on administrative issues affecting personnel including compliance with engineering budgets and processes Responsible for section staffing forecasts, strategies, and hiring efforts Support for compensation planning including section rankings and ratings Direct career counseling, mentoring, and coaching for all section personnel Career development and both technical and non-technical training Responsible for all aspect of employee development including performance feedback, appraisals, merit increases, and promotions What You Will Learn Broad access across Space portfolio programs Participate more regularly in writing and approving BOE based bids out of section Managing diverse team members and providing career opportunities/path for team Qualifications You Must Have Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering, Math, Science or related field Minimum of 15 years of experience in an engineering environment Experience with design, assembly, and documentation of Space Market Focal Plane Assemblies Effective communication skills, including verbal and written Experience with Common PDM (or similar configuration management database) with knowledge of drawing release cycles (Engineering Review Board) Experience and ability to write technical documentation Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to work to a budget and provide status Excellent written and verbal communication skills Self-starter, able to manage time and resources to meet assigned deadlines Experience with documentation of electro-optical components and sub-systems Working knowledge of Creo modeling software Ability to lead teams through the development process Drive to mentor and grow team members Qualifications We Prefer Minimum of 2 years of team leadership experience Ability to lead diverse teams successfully through the design process Solid foundation and understanding of Integrated Product Development System (IPDS) Familiar with engineering metrics and bidding enablers Solid knowledge of the hardware development process Department of Defense related product experience desired Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) What We Offer Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
