Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to join our ready-mix concrete operation. The EHS Manager will be responsible for overseeing and implementing comprehensive safety programs to ensure the well-being of our employees, customers and the general public. In addition, the EHS Manager will work as the main liaison with local government units such as health departments & pollution control agencies in order to maintain compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices and applicable regulations; focusing on ready-mix plant safety and DOT truck safety themes
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess safety conditions, identify potential hazards and provide guidance to site personnel
  • Lead safety meetings for leadership and management personnel to instill a culture of teaching and learning among peer groups
  • Collaborate with managers and supervisors to establish safety goals, objectives and performance metrics and to ensure proper implementation and adherence to safety protocols
  • Remain up to date with changing regulations and industry standards related to safety, environmental compliance and transportation
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental consciousness throughout organization by organizing safety training sessions, safety campaigns and proactively address all challenges and opportunities of being environmental stewards
  • Conduct investigations and maintain accurate records of accidents, incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and develop strategies for prevention
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable environmental legislation on a federal, state and local level; continually improve our environmental stewardship towards industry best practices
  • Ensuring that all necessary permits and licenses are applied for in a timely manner and are up to date
  • Prepare reports that asses the economic, social and environmental impacts or proposed policies and strategies
  • Develop strategies for limiting particulate matter from being emitted
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure equipment is serviced regularly to minimize spills and fluid leaks
  • Work with plant personnel to ensure proper use of dust suppressants for stock piles and unpaved areas as needed
  • Minimize discharge of spilled cement, aggregate, dust, etc. through regular sweeping of paved areas
  • Continually improve upon washout water (washwater) management to ensure washwater does not run off site into adjoining roads and enter roadside storm drains, discharging into surface waters
  • Support the diversion of recyclable materials from landfills by maintaining best practices for collecting and using recycled materials
Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a EHS Manager or similar role in the ready-mix concrete industry
  • In-depth knowledge of ready-mix plant safety, DOT truck safety and environmental compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory frameworks such as OSHA, EPA, DOT and state/local regulations
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive change in a safety-oriented culture
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Proactive and analytical mindset
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports
  • Competency with Microsoft 365
  • Certification such as Certified Safety Profession (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) are preferred
  • Must have valid driver's license, proof of insurance and personal vehicle required to visit multiple job sites
