Our client has an opening for a project and senior project accountant out of the construction industry They are looking for someone with the below skillset: Title : Project Accountant/Senior Project Accountant Location : Laurel, MD Salary : $68-78K Ideal Candidate: 3-5 yrs experience in project accounting Subcontractor background and cost-plus contract experience (huge plus) Project Controller background if from smaller construction company Strong collaborator and looking for long term growth We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Project Accountant/Senior Project Accountant to join our dynamic construction team. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting skills combined with a deep understanding of project management principles. This role will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, cost tracking, and timely reporting. Responsibilities : Assist with preparing and analyzing project budgets as well as project billings in regards to contract requirements Assess project costs vs. project budgets and analyze financial reports Monitor project expenses and track costs of labor, materials, and overhead expenses. Ensure compliance with insurance, lien waivers, vendors, W-9s and retention. Handle cost-plus contracts and preparation of status reports. Utilize Sage and Procore to set up new projects and perform monthly job review. Prepare monthly financial statements and project progress reports for management review. Maintain accurate project accounting records, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards. Generate ad hoc financial reports and analysis as requested by stakeholders. Assist in the preparation of tax filings and other regulatory compliance requirements. Requirements : - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field ideal but not required - 3 years of experience in project accounting or related role within the construction industry - Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage ideal - Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. - Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance. - Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Knowledge of construction industry regulations and practices is a plus.
