Sr. Project Accountant

LHH is seeking a highly skilled Construction Accountant with over 5 years of experience to join a reputable company in the [construction/real estate development] industry. The ideal candidate will have expertise in union accounting, Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, and managing financials for large-scale projects. This position offers a dynamic and challenging environment with a focus on precision, compliance, and collaboration. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and maintain WIP schedules, analyzing project costs, progress, and profitability. Manage union-related accounting, including payroll compliance, reporting, and contributions. Process and reconcile job cost reports, ensuring alignment with project budgets. Handle contract billing, including AIA progress billing, lien waivers, and change order tracking. Oversee accounts payable and receivable specific to construction projects, ensuring accurate coding and reporting. Perform monthly close processes, including general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation. Monitor and analyze project budgets and provide detailed variance explanations. Assist with audits by preparing documentation related to WIP, union compliance, and other construction-specific financial records. Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate forecasting and cost-to-complete analysis. Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5 years of accounting experience in the construction industry. Strong knowledge of WIP accounting and union compliance. Proficiency in accounting software (experience with ComputerEase, Viewpoint, or similar is a plus). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project teams and external stakeholders.
