Here’s a snapshot of what’s involved as an Assistant General Counsel: Major Real Estate Transactions : Lead negotiations for secured and unsecured debt, acquisitions, dispositions, and joint ventures (national and international experience required). Development & Leasing Support : Collaborate with leasing and development teams on tenant negotiations, design, and project development. Contracts & Negotiations : Draft and negotiate LOIs, leases (especially complex “big box” and “major” tenant agreements), subleases, amendments, and more. Operational Advice : Provide counsel on lease and tenant issues, collection activities, and property management matters. Cross-Department Collaboration : Offer transaction support to tax, finance, and operations teams and oversee paralegals on title, survey, and corporate housekeeping matters. Ideal Fit : This Assistant General Counsel role calls for a California-licensed attorney with at least 14 years of experience in complex commercial real estate development, retail leasing, major real estate transactions, and REITs. A solid foundation in real estate law , exceptional negotiation skills, and experience working with “big box” or flagship retail tenants is required.
