LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire a Senior Accountant for a contract opportunity in Berkeley, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing general accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with a focus on month-end close, financial reporting, and analysis. PLEASE NOTE; All duties for this role are performed at the client's office in Berkeley, California. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES General Ledger Management : Oversee the preparation and maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Month-End and Year-End Close : Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals. Financial Reporting : Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) for internal and external stakeholders. Ensure reports are accurate and delivered on time. Account Reconciliations : Perform detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts (e.g., cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other key accounts) to ensure proper financial reporting. Variance Analysis : Analyze financial results, compare actual performance to budget/forecast, and provide explanations for variances. Present findings to senior management. Audit Support : Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and regulations. Tax Compliance : Assist with preparation and filing of sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings. Collaborate with external tax advisors as needed. Process Improvement : Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Team Leadership : Mentor and support junior accountants, providing guidance on accounting best practices, complex transactions, and problem resolution. Ad-Hoc Projects : Participate in special accounting or finance-related projects as required, such as system upgrades, process automation, or financial analysis. DESIRED BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATIONS Education : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation preferred, but not required. Additional accounting certifications (e.g., CMA, CGMA) are a plus. Experience : Minimum of 4-6 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory accounting role. Experience in preparing financial statements, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes. Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with financial analysis and reporting. Previous experience working with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar). Experience in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a mid-sized to large organization. Skills : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy under tight deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, advanced formulas). Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both accounting and non-accounting staff.
