LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering to hire a Senior Accountant for a contact opportunity in Oakland, California. Our client highly prefers candidates with previous, non-profit experience. All duties are performed at the client's office in Oakland.
Position Summary:The Senior Accountant will play a key role in overseeing the company's financial reporting and accounting operations. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to analyze and resolve complex financial issues. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently, while also collaborating effectively with various departments. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP.
Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all journal entries and reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
Manage general ledger entries and ensure proper classification and allocation of accounts.
Prepare, review, and file various internal and external reports, including tax filings, financial analysis, and budgets.
Coordinate and assist with the annual audit process, including providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions.
Perform variance analysis, identifying discrepancies and working with management to resolve any issues.
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning activities.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and relevant regulations.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, assisting in their professional development and performance.
Work with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support for decision-making, business planning, and strategy development.
Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and industry trends.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required); CPA or equivalent professional certification is highly preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
Experience with financial consolidation, budgeting, and forecasting.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Knowledge of California state and federal tax regulations and compliance is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with ERP systems and financial management software.
Strong leadership abilities, with a track record of mentoring and developing accounting teams.
Experience in [industry-specific experience, e.g., manufacturing, construction, etc.] is preferred.
Working knowledge of financial regulations, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance (if applicable).
