About the Job Benedon & Serlin, LLP (B&S) is a nationally recognized appellate boutique law firm. The firm’s attorneys handle a wide range of civil appeals and writs in federal and California courts. Representative matters include appeals arising in such diverse areas as business litigation, employment, trusts and estates, real estate, family law, bankruptcy, arbitration, and anti-SLAPP motions. B&S is seeking an onsite, full-time Appellate Litigation Legal Secretary to join our Woodland Hills office. The Legal Secretary will be responsible for a variety of administrative, clerical and legal duties and will be an integral part of our legal team. The candidate must be a team player, respectful of co-workers and possess an easy-going nature, good sense of humor and the ability to handle the occasional stressful situation. Responsibilities · Prepare appellate briefs and documents for filing in California and federal appellate and Supreme Courts, including preparing tables, marking legal authorities using Word, hyperlinking citations and creating bookmarks using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. · E-file extensively in both California and federal courts. · Record and monitor deadlines through the firm’s docketing system and individual attorney calendar systems. · Create and save documents in accordance with the firm’s protocols. · Confer with California and federal courts per attorney directions. · Assist in the timely submission of conflict checks and client intake forms. · Perform general law office duties such as copying, scanning, answering phones and transferring calls, and responding to e-mails. · Assist multiple attorneys. · Perform other duties as may be assigned. Requirements/Minimum Qualifications/Qualifications · Minimum of 5 years of related experience in litigation and/or appellate matters. · Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Proven aptitude to learn new software applications. · Experience with electronic filing (via TrueFiling or similar program). · Strong attention to detail. · Ability to prioritize work assignments in a timely manner. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including top-notch telephone skills and the ability to write simple correspondence and routine messages. · Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. · Willingness to assist others when needed. · Paralegal certificate or college degree preferred but not required. · Experience with NetDocs document management system helpful but not required. Location Woodland Hills, California Compensation Salary commensurate with experience. Please submit hourly salary requirement with your resume.
