Through education, effective litigation, and collaboration, they work tirelessly to expand access to justice for all, identify needs in our community, and challenge systems, laws, and policies that adversely affect the underserved and marginalized. Position Description Our project focuses on providing legal representation to the under-served residents of Broward County, whose housing rights, as well as civil rights have been violated, including impact class action litigation, which can have national, state and/or local effects. The paralegal will be responsible for assisting the managing attorney with providing high-quality legal services. This will include assisting with drafting legal documents, organizing case files, assisting with trial and hearing preparation, as well as any other responsibilities related to assisting the managing attorney provide legal services. Also, the paralegal position requires conducting intake and outreach, as well as, appearing at special legal and community projects. Qualifications A minimum of 5 years of experience in complex litigation is required; Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures; Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items. A demonstrable awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the populations our client serves is necessary; Ability to work effectively with a large caseload and function professionally within a highly stressful environment; Interview clients and prepare summaries of their statements; Strong organizational and time management skills; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases; Assists attorney with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings; Ability to work independently at times and also as an effective part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners; Excellent written and communication skills; Ability to maintain confidentiality, and exercise discretion and good judgment; Proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel or related software The ability to speak more than one language is a plus; and A willingness to, at times, work beyond a minimum seven-hour workday, including evenings and weekends
