Position Title: Health and Safety Manager Location: Lockport, NY Status: Full-time, Exempt Company Overview: Candlelight Cabinetry is a leading B2B manufacturer specializing in building and finishing custom and semi-custom cabinetry for the home. Position Summary: The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and managing health and safety programs to ensure a safe work environment for all employees. They work closely with management and staff to develop and enforce policies and procedures that promote occupational health and safety. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Regularly review and update existing policies to reflect changes in regulations or organizational needs. Training and Education: Conduct training sessions for employees on various safety topics, including emergency procedures, hazard recognition, and use of protective equipment. Ensure that all employees receive adequate safety training upon hire and whenever new processes, or equipment are introduced. Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to identify potential hazards and risks. Collaborate with department managers to address identified hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks. Incident Investigation: Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, or near misses to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. Document and report all incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements including OSHA log. Safety Compliance: Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies. Coordinate with regulatory agencies as necessary and ensure timely submission of required reports and documentation. Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency protocols. Safety Committee Participation: Serve as a resource and advisor to the company's safety committee. Facilitate regular safety meetings and provide guidance on safety-related issues. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related field. Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH, OHST) preferred. Proven experience in health and safety management, preferably in a similar industry or environment. Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams. Attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform occasional site visits and inspections, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs or ladders. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Working Conditions: The Health and Safety Manager typically works in an office environment but may also spend time in various areas of the facility or outdoors conducting inspections or training sessions.
